Who we are

Human Resistance does not start from nothing. It grows out of Atlas Movement, founded in 2020 by Andrea Venzon and Colombe Cahen-Salvador after they had co-founded the pan-European party Volt Europa.

For years Atlas organised campaigns, protests and lobbying across borders against authoritarianism, climate change and inequality, moving from grassroots activism toward a global political movement.

Atlas is now becoming Human Resistance. Of all the threats we have fought, the concentration of power that new technology makes possible is the one becoming most visible, and the one where the least has been done to stop it. Answering it takes a movement willing to fight for power itself, and that is where we are putting all our strength.

We are an international movement of the democratic left. We organise across borders because the corporations and empires we face do not stop at them, but power is still won country by country. That is why we will found national political parties where we can, and run our candidates on allied lists where we cannot, working with those who share our values. Wherever elections remain free, we intend to win them.

We want power because there are things only power can do. Taxing extreme fortunes, bringing the infrastructure of the digital age into public and shared ownership, and putting the most powerful systems under democratic control all require governments willing to act, and there are too few of them. Protest can force a decision onto the agenda, but someone still has to be in the room to take it.

When the institutions meant to protect people refuse to listen, we break the rules openly, as the suffragettes, the civil rights movement and generations of workers did before us. We train before we act, we act under our own names and we take responsibility for what we do.

Every member has the same democratic rights, whether or not they pay dues. Members vote on the movement's positions, and the movement answers to them.
